The route described for this ride begins at the Blackwood Hotel and heads north up the Old Blackwood Road, along Nugget Track and then along the Albion Track and across to the Greendale-Trentham Road after passing the Tyrconnel Mine which was operational until fairly recently. The trail is shown in dark green in the map above.
The ride is largely along gravel roads and fire trails and does not form a circuit as such and is more a connecting track between other rides on this site. The described ride can be followed south to hook up with the Pottery Track ride as shown or you can head further north to pick up the Wheelers Track ride which provides a long fast downhill dirt road run into the gorge area before heading back to Blackwood via the Garden of St Erth area. Alternatively you can just follow the bitumen back to Blackwood.
Head north from the Blackwood Hotel down Martin Street, cross the Lerderderg River at the bridge and follow Old Blackwood Road for 1.5 kms from the bridge. (Note the bridge was damaged in the 2011 floods but but has now been restored.) At this point you reach the intersection with a large tree in the fork as shown below. Turn left onto Nugget Track.

Head north up Old Blackwood Road from town until you get to tree at fork in road in left photo. Head left onto Nugget Track which is shown in the other two pictures. Trails were just graded in these photos but are typically very rough and cut up to the point you can't get a 2WD car up there readily. |

Follow Nugget Track for about 1.2 km and turn left into Albion Track. Nugget Track is shown in the pictures below. At the time of taking the photos, the track had been regraded the week before so is quite smooth. However it is typically deeply rutted over the winter due to 4WD vehicles ripping it up due to the steep slopes up and down. If you have a look at the Yankee Circuit photos, you will see the same track in mid winter. This provides a good hill climb with a large increase in altitude over a short distance.

At the intersection with Albion Track, turn left and follow the track south a short distance and follow it around to the right - don't proceed straight ahead down Albion Track as it's a dead end. Keep an eye on your map to ensure you're on the right path. |

After a kilometre or so, you get to a very steep and rutted downhill portion before coming to the water pumping station. |

Follow the track further and you will come out at the Tyrconnel mine workings shown above. This was operational until fairly recently and you can still see the adit and mine workings. Follow the track further and you will come out at the "Monkey Puzzle" tree on the Greendale-Trentham Road shown in the last photo. |
